Welcome to the Workshop!

Identifying conflicts, handling them in a non-violent way, and offering non-violent resistance - these have been the bearing thoughts of the Werkstatt für Gewaltfreie Aktion, Baden ('Workshop for Non-violent Action, Southern German Region 'Baden'') since its foundation as a peace-political educational institution and a training centre in 1984.

Every day many people experience violence and war, discrimination and absence of freedom. To remain passive or to defend oneself violently to many seem the only options. The Workshop, in contrast, offers hopeful and constructive non-violent alternatives.

The Workshop provides a learning space in which one can experience that the world can be changed - also without violence.

  • We support political groups in the preparation and performance of non-violent actions and campaigns.

  • Together with institutions for adult-education, with different professions and initiatives we carry out seminars and training in non-violent conflict handling.

  • We offer training-curricula for qualifications in non-violent conflict handling.

We can offer you the following information in English:

Developing a culture of non-violence

We will never have peace in the world until men everywhere recognize that ends are not cut off from means [...] You can't reach good ends through evil means, because the means represent the seed and the end represents the tree.

Martin Luther King

There is no doubt at all - non-violence works! Our task is to spread this culture of non-violence.

Johan Galtung

Non-violence is not only a method, it is at the same time an attitude. As an attitude, however, it is only convincing if it causes practical consequences.

Wolfgang Sternstein, peace researcher
